 Wayne Kramer (Mindhunters, Running Scared) has written and is directing a full length version of his 1996 short drama, Crossing Over.  The film focuses on the issue of multicultural immigrants in Los Angeles.  It deals with document fraud, illegal border crossings, the process of getting a green card and eventually becoming a naturalized citizen, INS enforcement and the counter terrorism office.

Wayne has a fabulous cast lined up with Harrison Ford, Sean Penn, Ashley Judd and Lee Horsley.  Ashley plays the part of an immigration defense attorney.  She is trying to arrange a Nigerian girl’s adoption.  Harrison has the role of an enforcement officer who raids businesses in an attempt to capture illegal immigrants.  Ray Liotta will function as a bureaucrat and Sean Penn has a cameo role as a border patrol agent.

Kramer is hoping to make Americans aware of how difficult it is to get into the United States and stay here.  He says he’d like to portray “how the system works, who are the people caught up in it, and why, at times, they are forced to do fraudulent things.”  The film is already being compared to the award winning film Crash.  I guess we’ll have to wait and see for ourselves.

Crossing Over will be coming to theatres August 22,2008
