Marvel’s Iron Man topped the box office this weekend making an estimated $201 million dollars. This puts them in the top ten opening weekends of all time. That makes it no surprise that they’ve already announced the sequel. Iron Man 2 will open in April 2010.

They’ll follow that movie with Captain America opening May 6, 2011 and The Avengers in July of 2011. All in all Marvel Studios plans to produce ten films total at this time.

Now that Marvel has control of the films it’s rumored that we may see more characters showing up in a single film instead of the lone hero as in recent years.

Whether you’re a fan of comics or not, Iron Man is a thrill ride that is not to be missed.
